Sometimes the Algorithm Wins
But that's not always a bad thing
I don’t have a name for the newsletter yet, but I’m going to use this space to talk about photography, storytelling, & queerness, with the occasional thirst trap. Thank you for supporting me.
I’m suffering from social media burnout and I know I can’t be the only one.
It feels like every moment that I’m not actively doing something I jump on the apps to see what’s happening or doomscrolling eats my brain late at night as I lay in bed trying to sleep. This has been chipping away at my mental health for a long time now, so I decided to make a change and step back from social media.
This newsletter is my way out.
I’m grateful to those of you who followed me before on other platforms and have now accompanied me to this new place. These are the early but exciting days of new creative momentum.
Getting my photography back on track is a priority. I want to liberate all the energy stolen by social media, redirect it into my art, and cultivate a space of my own that’s not battered by the whims of an algorithm. I’m reigniting the self-portrait series, dipping my toes back into street photography, looking for models for new portrait work, and finally putting together the Purple Days zine.
This newsletter is where I’ll discuss my progress and share teasers as I go along. I’ll keep it free and accessible and you can easily subscribe below to get my posts directly in the Substack app or your email. If you do opt for the paid subscription route, I’ll be recording voiceovers of my future posts as a bonus.
For a more in-depth look at my process, full photosets, and behind the scenes images then I’d love for you to join me on Patreon. That kind of direct support gives me the ability to fund these projects and everything that goes into making them a reality.
One of the things I’m most excited about is finally getting my work into print. The Purple Days zine will capture the start of my photographic practice with accompanying essays and expansions to the captions that originally appeared alongside these photos. It hurts that the behind the scenes image below was snapped back in May of 2021, but realistically I’m much more capable now than I was back then to actually produce this little book.
As a thank you, I’m offering discounts to the folks who are subscribed here or on Patreon before the publication date. The initial run will probably be 10-25 but if there’s more interest I could do a larger print. We’ll see how it goes.
A like, share, or comment are also fantastic ways of supporting this project.
Thanks again and take care. 💜
